License answers
Can I use OFL 1.1 commercially, in AI training or with modifications?
Use, study, modify and redistribute the fonts, including bundled with commercial software; the fonts may not be sold by themselves, and modified versions may not use reserved font names.
| Use | Answer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| commercial_use | Yes | Permitted, with duties: license_notice, share_alike, reserved_font_names, font_not_sold_alone. |
| model_training | Needs human review | The license grants broad rights but attaches conditions (such as keeping notices) to copies and adaptations. Whether a trained model, or its output, is a copy or adaptation that carries those conditions is legally unsettled, and in some places training may fall under an exception such as fair use. A human reviewer should confirm this use for your case. |
| modification | Yes | Permitted, with duties: license_notice, share_alike, reserved_font_names, font_not_sold_alone. |
| redistribution | Yes | Permitted, with duties: license_notice, share_alike, reserved_font_names, font_not_sold_alone. |
| model_inference | Yes | Permitted, with duties: license_notice, share_alike, reserved_font_names, font_not_sold_alone. |
